Q: iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen

So a couple days ago, my iPhone 6+ began having intermittent screen responsiveness. First time, I received a phone call and couldn't answer it because the swipe wouldn't work. I turned it off and back on with no luck. I reset it and that fixed it. That was the only issue that day. I the last few days it's becoming more frequent. Today alone I've had to reset it eight times.

What it's doing;

  • touch screen is unresponsive to touch entirely.
  • touch screen responds after a delay
  • I tap an app icon and the app two rows up opens instead.
  • from loch screen-can't answer phone calls or notifications.

Sometimes it just leave it alone and come back to it and it's fine. Sometimes I leave it alone and come back with same result and I have to reset it. Sometimes I reset it once and trying to unlock with touchscreen (because touch ID doesn't work after reset) doesn't work so I reset it twice. It has worked after the second time, so far.

The phone is in perfect condition. Never been dropped. Was updated to 8.3 the day it was released so the issue didn't arise immediately after an update.

Anyone having these issues?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.3

This issue has ruined my phone. It is essentially unusable.. to send a one sentence text message takes about 10 minutes which involves locking and unlocking my phone repeatedly until the screen works for half a second.. generally after one letter on keyboard the screen stops again.

Have tried every solution, the iCloud solution is difficult with a 6 -128gb iphone, I feel like I should not have to pay for additional iCloud space just to try this 'fix' which probably wont work.  I've been using Iphones since the 3G and have always backed up to my computer and thats been fine.

As everyone keeps mentioning this is a 'known issue.. feels like a giant rip off that us loyal customers are hit with financial repercussions of being loyal to the brand.
Apple, I dont think we're requesting our money back, I think we just want a fix. The phone was great before this issue began.

I also have the same unresponsive screen issue since 2-3 monthes on my Iphone 6 plus. It occurs randomly during the day, and it being more and more frequent.

For me, a simple lock/unlock is enough 90% of the time to get the touch screen fine again.

I do not have the grey bar when it occurs, and until now, i do not knew if it was an hardware or software issue...

Know i am almost certain it's hardware: Everything was fine for more than one year, with an updated iOs version.

The opener faced my exact issue last year, on the same device... so it's not linked to an os bug.

Guess i will have to pay for a screen fix, and it's a disgrace for Apple, on my mind the last topic on wich they were good was their product quality comparing to others, looks like it's no longer the case... I will review more closely androids smartphones when i will replace my phone.

    I have this same issue.

I have done the backup to Computer, backup to iCloud.

Then connect to iTunes, Restore, and then download from backup from iCloud.

Still not working, my screen is unresponsive to touch.

Need help with this. I have been having this for over 6-months now.

I hope Apple will look into it and come back with a solution.

This phone has cost be half my paycheck, hope you have a solution for me

And yes, Touch ID no longer works, and if you have the unresponsive screen issue; please remove Touch ID, that the one reason I am not using ApplePay either, and i so want to use that.

Your phone is broken. It's a hardware failure. No amount of software changes or updates will fix it. Take it to an Apple store for diagnosis, and they can tell you your options.

Did the last poster say he/she had 3 replacements with the same problem over 2 months?

On the 5th phone. 1st one lasted 13 months, 2nd 1 week, 3rd 1 month , 4th 6 weeks and hopefully the current 5th will be the final one. I was able to work around the problem by tapping the back of the phone kind of hard with my index finger seems like the bad connection between chip and mother board would fix itself temporarily. A little bending or twisting of the soft aluminum case would also help .

I'm on my 4th phone.  One lasted 9 months, another 3 weeks, another 1 day - all with the same issue (the flickering screen of death!)

The 4th one seems okay so far but it's early days!

wow! it is amazing how much our particular iphone 6plus issues are like the EXACT SAME ISSUE WORD BY WORD! I am glad i came here today cuz i have been constantly having these intermittent unresponsive screen issues ever since i had dropped my iphone 6 plus and the screen was shattered ....yes i know its just a phone lol but i was so mad at myself for ever dropping my iphone in the first place! Because my hubby has had to buy two different iphone 6plus screens, and both screens have exhibited this unresponsive issue!!!!??? OMG I am going insane cuz no matter what we try to do it ends up happening again......so i am going to defienitley try out the exact steps you listed cuz they sound easy and doable for me.....so thank you

    I FIXED this problem.

For me (and maybe only me). It was the Facebook Messenger app.

I noticed every time I factory reset, the problem was gone until I slowly loaded back some apps. I then took time to play around with each app and eventually identified Facebook Messenger was the reason.

I've had this fix for weeks and so far it hasn't come back. Hope this helps other too!.

Again, maybe it's just my iPhone 6 plus.

Sadly, i think it will be temporary fix. I processed the same way to solve the issue, i thought i managed to have a "stable" application set, and 2 weeks after, without any new apps, or new setup on the notifications (i thought it was a notification issue) the issue reappeared, and i have it several times a day now. Anyway i hope i will be wrong and it will be fixed for good for you.

(To the CM: I guess this part can still be posted?)

I am having this problem as well.  I had my original phone for less than a year and was replaced because of an unrelated issue.  I've had the replacement phone for about 3 months now and I started noticing problems a few days ago; touchscreen wouldn't respond, faint vertical lines down the screen, glitchy gray blob in the top 1/4 of the display.  My phone has not been dropped, it has a screen protector, and it stays in its case.  I tried a factory reset and it did not help. I'm about 2 weeks out of the year warranty.
