Q: iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen

So a couple days ago, my iPhone 6+ began having intermittent screen responsiveness. First time, I received a phone call and couldn't answer it because the swipe wouldn't work. I turned it off and back on with no luck. I reset it and that fixed it. That was the only issue that day. I the last few days it's becoming more frequent. Today alone I've had to reset it eight times.

What it's doing;

  • touch screen is unresponsive to touch entirely.
  • touch screen responds after a delay
  • I tap an app icon and the app two rows up opens instead.
  • from loch screen-can't answer phone calls or notifications.

Sometimes it just leave it alone and come back to it and it's fine. Sometimes I leave it alone and come back with same result and I have to reset it. Sometimes I reset it once and trying to unlock with touchscreen (because touch ID doesn't work after reset) doesn't work so I reset it twice. It has worked after the second time, so far.

The phone is in perfect condition. Never been dropped. Was updated to 8.3 the day it was released so the issue didn't arise immediately after an update.

Anyone having these issues?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.3

SAmsung, LG and others seriously beckon I think!!!

From a purely hardware perspective, I prefer Android phones made by Motorola. Amazing battery life, very durable.

@Lawrence Finch: What is your interest in always minimizing this issue with iPhone 6/6+ as you did on several previous posts? I don't understand your motivation.

I'm going to take a guess, that, as an engineer, Lawrence's motivation would be accuracy and a desire to counter the histrionics we're seeing. But, that's just my opinion.

So when he is is talking of merely hundreds cases for this issue -as an engineer myself - he is talking with Apple metrics in front of him? If it's the case, then ok, he is absolutely right, please accept my apologies.

I obviously also don't have this metrics, so i won't extrapolate from what i heard: a single small Apple store see the issue ten times a day...

Let's wait for the class action(s) in progress to have a clearer view.

I'm guessing you don't have a lot of experience with the U.S. legal system.

The legal firm representing the class action has been overwhelmed with responses. I just want a functioning phone. All my previous ones are home in a drawer and function perfectl, never had an issue like this. Just replace them and move on.

Correct! Should i understand that some people part of a class action may never had suffered from the purpose of the class action??

@Lousyiphone66 I agree. This is a really making me angry and Apple's only solution is we should just buy a new iPhone!

Just so. It's clearly an issue and very frustrating (and infuriating) if it happens to you, but it is not happening to hundreds of millions of users.

It's also a matter of risk tolerance. Any user can extend the warranty to 2 years for $99. Most carriers offer insurance for a few $ a month. Its a choice you make with any financial decision, just like homeowners or renters insurance, or collision insurance for your car. If you didn't chose any type of coverage when you bought your phone you made the decision that you would prefer to take a chance that you would have to pay out $300 in the future rather than the certainty of $99.

YYou cannot file a class action lawsuit. You file a suit for one individual plaintiff, then request that the court include other plaintiffs. The bar to get class action status is quite high; you need to prove that it affects a very large number of identical cases. If you achieve class action status the entire process can take several years before the case is even heard. And there's no guarantee that you will win. If you do win you will get a small settlement, and the lawyers will get rich. But meanwhile nothing may happen.

I suggesting that, if you expect a civil suit to provide clarity about anything other than the fact that the lawyers usually benefit more than anyone else, you're going to be very disappointed.

I wonder the same thing. I hope he has some sort of fiscal benefit, because if he's just being the white knight for Apple, it's kind of sad.

Could not disagree with you more. This is a systematic hardware design failure, plain and simple - not some one off dodgy component that has decided to fail for a handful of customers. This is happening to hundreds, if not thousands of users on devices that usually last for years and years. Some customers have reported being on their 6th iPhone 6 Plus to have the same issue - you're not telling me that's just 'unfortunate'.

The sooner everyone wakes up to this being a huge design flaw from Apple leaving thousands of customers wrongly having to pay through the nose (again) for a new phone after just 1 year of use is unacceptable.
