Q: iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen

So a couple days ago, my iPhone 6+ began having intermittent screen responsiveness. First time, I received a phone call and couldn't answer it because the swipe wouldn't work. I turned it off and back on with no luck. I reset it and that fixed it. That was the only issue that day. I the last few days it's becoming more frequent. Today alone I've had to reset it eight times.

What it's doing;

  • touch screen is unresponsive to touch entirely.
  • touch screen responds after a delay
  • I tap an app icon and the app two rows up opens instead.
  • from loch screen-can't answer phone calls or notifications.

Sometimes it just leave it alone and come back to it and it's fine. Sometimes I leave it alone and come back with same result and I have to reset it. Sometimes I reset it once and trying to unlock with touchscreen (because touch ID doesn't work after reset) doesn't work so I reset it twice. It has worked after the second time, so far.

The phone is in perfect condition. Never been dropped. Was updated to 8.3 the day it was released so the issue didn't arise immediately after an update.

Anyone having these issues?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.3

"I just want a functioning phone." - so true....Apple how about giving us the new 7 if we can demonstrate the touch disease for the difference between the value of a functioning 6 plus and the new 7. I believe many would rather take the assumption of no defects in the 7 rather than shell out another $350 for another 6 plus ticking time bomb. It would be nice to get compensated for previous "repairs"; but I for one could forgo that just so I have a "functioning phone" again. Do you really want the bad PR and turn away your customers? There are choices....and Apple is not the ONLY one.

I really don't know what to do. I'm in the UK and I got my iPhone 6 Plus from ebay second hand, fully believing in the quality of Apple products (and having bought several second hand iPhones in the past) only to discover that a couple of months after receiving it, it has the touch disease.

I, too, just want a functioning phone. I've had plenty of functioning iPhones in the past, this one should be no different. I doubt, even if Apple see the light and offer something to those affected, I would be included.

squeezing the suppliers too hard? maybe that's the cause...but for Apple to refuse to accept the defect is bad business in the long run. Come on Apple, do your customers right!

Forbes is not impartial with regard to Apple. Unfortunately, I cannot read the link because Forbes blocks access if you have an ad blocker enabled, and Forbes has, on more than one occasion, allowed ads containing malware on its site.

Any user can extend the warranty to 2 years for $99. Most carriers offer insurance for a few $ a month. Its a choice you make with any financial decision, just like homeowners or renters insurance, or collision insurance for your car. If you didn't chose any type of coverage when you bought your phone you made the decision that you would prefer to take a chance that you would have to pay out $300 in the future rather than the certainty of $99.

Lawrence, I would guess that most who purchase Applecare do so more because it covers accidental damage, not because the phone might not make it past a year as a result of a design flaw.  First, most major credit cards offer extended protection (everybody affected, please follow up on this), but second, if people thought there was a reasonable chance of the phone failing after a year (without the manufacturer being concerned) they wouldn't likely buy the product, let alone the extended warranty.

One can gloat about the failure of others to buy Applecare or carrier insurance, but it doesn't change the fundamental fact that a product failure, whatever the magnitude, is not good for Apple or its customers.

There are a lot of predictable stances that forum regulars take all over the internet.

As news of "touch disease" continues to spread, the magnitude of the problem will become obvious, but what effect Apple's response, or lack of response to it will have on their business remains to be seen. TBH, I don't know what I would do if I were at the helm at Apple.

But it still frosts my behind to be gaslighted about it.

My own hope is that the iPhone 7 is a good enough product that I would have bought it anyway. In that case, I'll keep twisting and pinching my beast of a 6 Plus and try to make it to the 7. Then I'll try to replace the chips on the 6 Plus myself and see what happens.

I take this stance as an Apple user since the Apple ][ Integer Basic machine. I'm a fan, and I'm trying to remain one. But they can't travel backwards and become a small upstart again, so I don't expect them to. The right move for them is to continue to create a powerful suction into the future that will pull us along rather than to try to cling to us in the present. I hope they can do it, but it's very iffy atm.

Correct! Should i understand that some people part of a class action may never had suffered from the purpose of the class action??

I suggesting that, if you expect a civil suit to provide clarity about anything other than the fact that the lawyers usually benefit more than anyone else, you're going to be very disappointed.

Oh, yes. Probably. My interest in the class action was totally different: It's an opportunity to estimate the quantity of iPhones facing the issue. I am not used to believe everything i read on Internet, sadly for this issue, as apple don't communicate i can only judge from data sent by unknown source. (Or, as i said, from a Genius guy talking about his own apple store)

Currently, the trend tend to say "OMG, it's a HUGE probleme for all iPhone 6 owner".

I have the same problem. I took it to Apple - Warranty out. Took it to carrier provider - they refused to exchange. Apple did take a look and said your phone needs replacing not the screen, It's the actual motherboard that is faulty (so they claim).

I started experiencing this problem about 4 months ago when I updated my IOS and have tried updating to IOS 10 beta which was even worse but 9.3.4 was fairly stable when it came to touch response.

I tried restarting, erasing all data and set up new iphone - None of this worked.

Any way I charged my iphone at my inlaws one day with a none apple brand cable and it stopped playing up for a few days, then when I charged it up on an apple charger on my external battery power pack it started playing up again. So what I do now is charge it via my desktop USB port and the problem is gone. I don't know whether its a software issue or technical but i'm guessing there is something to do with the battery that has an affect. Must be an interference with the motherboard, if the motherboard was faulty I would expect the screen to always be temperamental.

I now charge my iphone with a low voltage, slower charge but it seems to fix my issue for now.

Try it out and let me know.

SAMSUNG has its fair share of issues too....

In one of the biggest global recalls of smartphones, Samsung Electronics Co. said it would replace Galaxy Note 7 devices because of reports of battery fires, dealing a blow to the company's recovery efforts.

so hopefully apple will do a recall........

Yes Samsung do seem to be as unreliable and overpriced as Apple these days.

Can recall though when I first bought the iPhone 6+ 128GB 2 years ago. Had huge problems with it constantly crashing when more than about 1/2 of its memory was in use. Even though this was a very widespread problem, Apple did not admit to it or offer any solution other than exchange which also didn't resolve problem. So in the end had to contend with using less than 1/2 memory paid for to keep a functioning phone.

And now this issue makes the phone unusable again. So true to form, will Apple just ignore its customer complaints as before? Have read that many of the refurbished exchange units via Apple stores also have the problem.

But do Samsung, LG and others also treat their customers with such contempt?

Samsung make phones that catch fire, and don't bother to recall them.

    What do you think?
