Headphone jack playing music when tugged

I have a 13" MacBook Air. Less than a year old.

Problem Scenario: My headphones are plugged in. iTunes is not running. If there is even the slightest tug on my headphone cord, iTunes opens up and immediately plays music.

Why does this happen? How can I fix it?
