ios 8.3 not installing

ios 8.3 not installing

Hi,

I have just tried to update both my iphone 4s and ipad 2 to ios 8.3

Both of them have done the exact same thing.

I downloaded the update. Itunes extracted the file, then said it was waiting for the device. Both devices turned off, then on restart went to the screen with dock connecting to itunes. After 5 mins or so Itunes said unable to update. Now both aren't being recognised by itunes, but my computer still registers that something is connected. I have tried holding the home button while connecting to itunes etc and nothing works. Scanned the forums and tried all possible combos of getting itunes to recognise it and nothing helped! I will point out that my iphones home button doesn't work so i've just tried on the ipad. I have tried re-installing itunes and that didn't work either. Should I be taking them to an apple store as right now I just have two rather expensive paper weights.

Ok so i think ive sussed it on my own. I moved the cable to the USB slot on the other side of my laptop. Duh. Itunes recognised it first go. There are three USB slots on my laptop and I had tried the other two. Only problem is it looks as tho its going to be a blank unit again. Will try the phone next and see if it works!

Worked for the phone too, didn't have to hold down any buttons, it just recognised it via the other USB. Weirdly enough, both will now sync with itunes via the other two USB ports aswell. Maybe somewhere in the itunes files it is written to recognise devices in recovery mode only via one USB port?
