Remote is not a remote

i really have started to hate the greedy apple corp. i bought apple tv and cant find the stupid slimsy remote. Obviously designed so you lose it and then have to buy another. i downloaded the remote app and all it will do is play itunes not work as a flipping remote.

Can anyone help me figure out how to pair it with the Apple TV and set up the Home Sharing so the App gives me the full services it provides?

You need home sharing setup and both devices on the same network in order to use remote app with Apple TV. A physical remote would be needed to set those up. If you have a universal IR remote (like Logitech harmony) that can also work.
