In the latest iPhoto version I don't see the option to share a photo using Apple Mail.
I went to iPhoto preferences: no option to check Mail as the default
system preferences: Mail is checked but it appears in light grey
Looking forward to some suggestions how to fix this - THANKS

Do you mean Photos? the option to share by email still exists in the latest version of iPhoto (9.6.1)
It is not under 'share' on my computer. Please let me know where to look for it.

There is no such thing as iPhoto 1.0, you must mean Photos 1.0
There is no iPhoto 1.0 - the current version of iPhoto is 9.6.1 and email has not changed of rit
There is a new Photos 1.0 - for it
Click on the sharing icon Ithe rectangle with an UpArrow coming out) and select the email you want to use - you may have to go to the system preferences ==> extensions ==> share menu and enable some items

Sure have - but to get help you first have to provide us with details as there is no general, absolute answer - what version of the OS and of iPhoto or Photos do you have?

In Photos 1.5 select the photo and click on the share icon (the rectangle with a vertical arrow through it) and select mail - the mail application must be set as your default mail reader

Ah! I extremely dislike the mail application and had not set it as my default mail reader. Under "Preferences" in the Mail application, I changed my default application from Chrome to Mail, however, it still registers the default as Chrome. I've made several attempts to change it but it won't stick!

Chrome is not an email client - it is a web browser
as to setting Mail as the default mail reader - reboot your Mac and try - if that does not work ask in the forum for your OS - detailed Mail assistance is not well handled in the Photos for Mac forum
