Protective film around the battery

I just bought a new Apple battery for my MacBook Pro 13 in Mid-2009. Do I have to remove the protective film around the battery before installing it? From both sides? Thanks

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2009), OS X Yosemite (10.10)

Apple will only sell a battery if they install it.

I have to surmise that you have purchased a third party battery. Since third party batteries are an unknown quantity, I suggest that you pose that question to the vendor.

The performance of third party batteries is at best mixed. The only place that I recommend other than Apple for batteries is OWC.

Ciao.

Thank you, Ogelthorpe. Correct: I bought the battery not from Apple but from a seller on eBay, who sold it as genuine and new. From what I see, it really seems to be both genuine (identical in all respects to the original one) and new (cycle count = 0). Anyway, they said that keeping and removing the protective film makes no difference. I removed it.

What something looks like from the outside may not be representative what is actually on the inside. If a vendor has access to the same batteries that Apple sells, certainly the same battery could be sold for a lot less than what Apple charges. But there is a point where the price is to good to be true and one buys essentially a piece of junk. I do hope that is not the case with your battery.

Good luck.
