The FaceTime HD Camera stops working with 32-bit applications

MacBook Air and MacBook Pro OS upgrades to Mavericks, and now Yosemite, prevent the built-in HD camera from working on third party 32-bit applications such as Skype, QuickTime Player, iMovie, iSpQ, FinalCut Pro, etc. MacBook Air (Mid 2013): FaceTime HD Camera might not work after OS X v10.8.5 update - Apple Support I can't find anything more recent on this topic on Apple Support. The built in camera seems to work fine on my desktop iMac with Yosemite, but not the laptops. Anyone find a work-around or fix?

Thanks!
