safari on macbook air has "IOS crashed due to third party application" popup. How do I get rid of it?

I have a MacBook Air and I was going into Google mail and received a Safari popup alert stating that the iOS crashed due to third party activity and listed a 1-800-227-8165 phone number to call for assistance. When I Googled the popup and phone number there were others who received the same message but a different phone number to call for support. There is no way around the popup and the only way to get out of Safari is to force quit. So basically Safari is no longer accessible. Does anyone know how to correct this problem?
