I have an IMac and at night I put it in sleep mode. When I wake up in the morning my computer is turned off. Why is that?
This has happened on several occasions.
iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)
Off as in you have to press the power button, it shows the apple logo, goes DUNNNNN?
you maybe losing power for a moment then... If you have an old school alarm clock plug it into the same outlet w/o a battery. See if the clock resets and you know it's the power.
Sounds like maybe it lost power during the night.
Go to: Applications > Utilities > Console > All Messages and check the last entry for yesterday.

also its plugged into a battery power saver extension with other electronics.
Those battery backups last a very short time unless you have a very large and very expensive one ($100s), but you at in sleep mode so idk how long it would last. Do what den.thed said, that's a really great idea. If you have an entry like "unexpected shutdown" or something that should answer it.
It's hibernating (deeper sleep mode) and it's normal.
ok great - so its normal to have to power up fully like I have shut off my computer?..that seems odd? Because it was only put in SLEEP mode for overnight.

It will vary depending on (a) how long it is asleep and (b) the depth of charge when it goes to sleep (if a ups is in use)
