How to remove malware after installing filezilla

Hello,

I have recently downloaded and installed Filezilla on my Macbook running on OS X Yosemite 10.10.3. I am normally very careful when downloading and installing software from external parties, but this time I apparently did not pay attention and Mac Keeper was installed together with Filezilla.

After removing both Mac Keeper and Filezilla from the applications folder my Chrome browser still opens Yahoo as startpage, even after I have set the my browser settings to Google as primary page and default search engine.

When I open a new window afterwards, the browser opens Google on default, so it only happens when I start Chrome for the first time (after restarting my Mac or after killing Chrome).

How can I stop Chrome opening Yahoo, and is there other maliscious software or files on my Mac?

I assume you have adware. You may try to use adware medic tool in order to scan and remove it: http://www.adwaremedic.com/

Download, open adwaremedic dmg file , and run it by clicking “Scan for Adware” button to remove adware.

Once done, quit AdwareMedic and restart your mac.

Launch Chrome and check if it solves the issue

Thank you. I have tried this already, but AdwareMedic says that it has not found any adware.

You may try to reset google chrome browser settings.

In the top-right corner of the browser window, click the Chrome menu
Select Settings.
At the bottom, click Show advanced settings.
Under the section "Reset settings,” click Reset settings.
In the dialog that appears, click Reset.

Gpg tp Chrome>Settings>Extensions and disable extensions to see if an extension is causing the problem. If you find it then click on the trashcan icon to delete it
