YouTube missing on Apple TV 3rd Generation (black box)

Hi,

YouTube is gone from my ATV revision 3 (the small black box version). It disappeared a couple days ago.

I have performed a full reset on my Apple TV (which took about 40 minutes) but the YouTube app did not return.

I read that the YouTube was to be removed from 1st and 2nd generation Apple TV boxes: http://appleinsider.com/articles/15/05/04/youtube-app-vanishes-from-older-apple- tv-models-latest-version-unaffected

That article says 3rd generation boxes are unaffected.

FWIW there are two 3rd generarion versions of Apple TV: Regular and 3rd generation Rev A: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_TV

I believe mine is the regular 3rd generation, not the 3rd generation Rev A version.

Any advice?

Settings > General > About, which model number and software version do you have.

I just noticed this also. YouTube is definitely missing on my Apple TV.

Model MC572LL/A

OS 6.2.1

Luckily, YouTube still works fine on my TiVo.

That would be a 2nd gen (not 3rd) and as such has been removed due to Google stopping support on the older app.

I guess the hilarious part is assuming that TiVo developers are sharper than the Apple developers.

Google would be the developer and has stopped support for the older API, Apple simply removed the non functioning app as have many other manufacterers. The 3rd gen Apple TV has no issue, neither do IOS devices running IOS 8 (as they can run the new app)

My mistake... I though all small-black-box Apple TV's were 3rd generation. The above model number is second generation.

3rd generation was released March 2012 with model number MD199BZ/A, with a rev A in Jan 2013. with model number MD199LL/A

Hi. Check that you haven't hidden the YouTube app. View the list of all channels.

Yup, I have an older LG blu-ray & streaming box, Youtube is on it and once upon a time it worked, but it has not worked for quite a while now, it just hangs around doing nothing.
