Upgrade from Leopard to Mavericks?

Hey guys!

So, I'm still using my nice old Mac (MacBook4,1; Specs: Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.1 GHz, 1GB memory; anything else you want to know, ask!). I know, quite ****** specs, but it actually still works quite nicely, despite sometimes slowing down unnecessarily.

Now, the problem is that more and more applications are not supported any more. Since today, I also can't use Skype anymore, which is quite a big deal for me, as I need it pretty regularly.

So: Is there any way to upgrade to OS X Mavericks? When I try to do it directly, I'm told that I have to upgrade to some intermediate version first, which isn't available any more. Any help there?

Also: If this was possible, would there be any point doing it? Or would it simply slow down everything so much that I can throw my Mac straight into the garbage bin?

Thanks guys! Felix

Your computer can’t be upgraded past 10.7.5; getting there requires buying a Snow Leopard DVD and at least 1GB more RAM.

1. Mavericks is no longer available to update to. It was removed when Yosemite wad released so unless you downloaded it and kept the installer when it was available there is no way to update to it now.

2. Your particular model of Macbook could not have updated to Mavericks anyway, and cannot update to Yosemite either. Your most up to date option is OSx Lion.

3. If you want to update to Lion, you'll need to update to Snow Leopard first to get the Mac App Store, and then use that to update to Lion.

To update to Snow Leopard you'll need to buy the Update DVD set for $19.99 from the online Apple Store.

With that done, you'll need to buy the download code for Lion also from the Online Apple Store and then download the update from Mac App Store App on your computer now running Snow Leopard.

However, to update to Lion you will need to add more RAM to your computer http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/

With all that said, I doubt at this point its worth going to all that trouble for that Macbook. It is a 7 year old computer after all, and perhaps upgrading to a newer model may be a better option.
