I watch causing Wrist and arm numbing and pain?

Hi everyone,

i'm on day 6 of using my i watch, which i love, however for the past 4/5 days is have been experiencing numbing and a tingling sensation on my arm.

It's actually very painful on my wrist at this point.

I decided, on day 4, to try it on my right arm. About 2 hours later I started experiencing the same thing.

I own the Stainless Steel I watch with the Milanese Loop.

Was wondering if anyone else experienced the same thing?

Although I absolutely love it because it has been very helpful for me in the gym I think i will be returning it.

Would like to hear anyone else's input.

Thanks

The encouragement to see a doctor isn't a bad one, and you always want to get at least a couple opinions before trying to zero in on what's causing the issue.

First off, try going a couple of days without wearing the Watch, and see if the problem persists. If it does, then it isn't the Watch, and is worth seeing a doctor about, likely one with a lot of knowledge about circulation or muscle pain.

If It doesn't persist when you aren't wearing the Watch, consider seeing a dermatologist to find out if you're having an allergic reaction: it could be to the ceramic back, as most people don't have reactions to stainless steel.

Double check to make sure you don't have the band too tight; if you normally wear watches, you probably have a good idea for what this feels like. The sensors on the Watch need some "pressure" on your wrist, but not a lot.

The pain factor makes me think you're likely having an allergic reaction, or it might be initial onset of carpal tunnel syndrome, but keep in mind I'm not a doctor, merely a layman who's done research into the carpal tunnel issue since I work in front of a computer all day and type really fast, so those are concerns of mine as well. 🙂

I hope the issue resolves for you; I'd hate to think someone couldn't enjoy the Watch because of medical concerns. 😟

I can assist too. I loved my series 1 till I could wear it. At the end I had to return mine due to the pain in my arm. Any idea about series 2? As the watch was completely redesigned I was thinking to buy one and try it again? Anyone who experienced the pain with series 1 tried the series 2?

As there were probably a lot of different reasons people were experiencing pain, it would be impossible to say if any changes made would resolve your issue. What did your doctor tell you was causing the problem for you?

For a lot of people, the issue was presumed to be the convex back pressing against a nerve. I haven't heard that's any different.

Hi, I didn't't see my doctor because it was clear that the watch caused my simptomps. Exactly the same as it was described here before. After day 2-4 of using my i-watch, which i loved by the way, i have been experiencing numbing and a tingling sensation on my left arm where I used the watch. It became very painful on my wrist and my arm that at this point I had to remove it and try without it. All symptoms fade away slowly after a few days. I tried to wear the watch again and for the second time the pain came back much quicker after the first day. I thought maybe the watch is faulty so I took it in and the Apple shop exchanged it to the same model. Tried that watch as well and the pain still appeared so after a few days on and off days I decided even if I loved the watch it didn't worth to have it on. My health was more important than a cool gadget so I took the watch back to Apple.

You believe everybody's problem was resolved? I believe most of them was resolved by taking the watch back to Apple like I did.

I don't think what you described " a convex back pressing against a nerve " could have caused pain like I had experienced. I would really love to wear the watch but I can't because my body don't agree with it for God knows what reason. I work it lose so could not press any nerves and did not have any allergic reactions to it neither. So if anyone has new experiences with the series 2 watch I'd love to hear from you. Thanks.

However, you are not a doctor. Only a licensed medical professional could diagnose what was causing the pain you were experiencing. Many people will be unable to wear the Apple Watch due to any number of reasons. Only a doctor can identify what the problem was. However, what Meg stated regarding the back has been identified as a reason for some users, based on their body's physiology.

Repeating what Meg stated, I do not see any difference in the design of Watch series 2, versus the original watch. Given that, I really don't see any changes in store for you and wearing a watch, unless you get the doctor to determine the origin of your pain and whether that can be mitigated or not.

So, if I get hit by a car, I don't need to go to a doctor because I know that the car caused my symptoms? However, in the case of the Watch, it's not even that clear. You believe that the Watch caused your symptoms. And, it may well have. But it may also have been more complicated than that.

I didn't mention anything about anyone's problem being resolved.

Then your problem is different than that experienced by some of the people here. That's my point. Until you know what the problem really is, the only way to determine if the new version of the watch is going to cause you, not someone else, the problem, is to wear one.

I've had the watch for three weeks now, wore it on my left wrist only. The past few days I started to notice that my left hand was cold, then painful, and today I experienced a sharp pain in my shoulder, that was worse if I flicked my wrist in the sort of movement you do to glance at your watch. Only then i realized the watch may have been causing the problem. It's very strange -- and frustrating, because I quite like the watch, it's the first watch I've worn in years. Perhaps I just have to get used to it.... But in case I don't: does anyone have any experience returning the Apple Watch because of a similar issue? Does Apple offer a refund?

I suggest reading the rest of the 13 page thread you posted to for varying opinions. IANAD, but it sounds like the watch is putting pressure on nerves in your wrist. Try loosening the band a little. In addition, it's likely that you are looking at the watch a lot more frequently than you would at a regular "dumb" watch, which could put more strain on your shoulder when you bring your arm up to look at it.

I have had my iwatch for three weeks now. I am experiencing a numbing and throbbing pain throughout my left arm up to my elbow. i have loosened it and tried to take a break from it but the pain returns. I just moved it to my right arm and i can feel some sort of electrical magnetic pulsating through my arm. there is definately going on here. I am past the 15 day mark and can't return it. What can apple do about this? like the features but not the arm pain.

Why are you responding to me? Your reply was not helpful or even close to understanding what I am going through. Of course I'm going to Apple they are responsible for the product that is responsible for my sudden arm pain. Of course whatever else I do to take care of it will be up to me. Don't need to state the obvious. I was feeling the pain and found others who experwinced it to. We the consumers are always the test subjects. If you can't provide any logical explanation or understand my pain please don't respond. Asking the question and making my pain known is for Apple to be aware of it and do something about it If indeed need to. I didn't ask for the numbing pain.

Because this is a public forum and I had something to say.

While you may not think my reply was helpful, it does not convey a lack of understanding. You have a medical problem. You need to see a doctor.

Dear all,

Just to let you know I went through the Apple Watch saga with Series 1 trying out every combo of face / band but the pain just remained in my left arm / elbow/ shoulder.

1.5 years later, I yesterday got the series 2 Nike+ edition in the hope that I could finally have one. Unfortunately same pain within 12 hours, hand, wrist, arm, elbow and shoulder.

The apple watch simply doesn't agree with a small minority of people and causes aches and pains which can't be properly diagnosed.

Back to apple store at lunch to get a refund.

No more apple watches for me until they have a re-design and potentially change the material.

I would like to note I really do love the device and am upset that I cant keep it!

I'm not claiming to make a medical statement but can confirm that I have tried every iteration of the AW including the latest series and experienced the same symptoms whilst wearting the device. Once the device is off the symptoms start to fade.

I have never experienced anything like this in my 25 year history of wearing watches.

As I said I wish this wasn't the case as I really love the device. Other people in the thread have also had similar issues hence why I said small minority,
