Download photos from iPhone to Macbook Pro

Hello,

So I have this issue: I had some trouble with my mac and reinstalled the OS. Therefore I lost all unsaved data, including photos. Luckily, my "photos" folder on my iPhone shows I have 6000 of them on my phone. Unluckily I can't transfer them via iCloud or iPhoto. I can't see that specific album with neither app.

I can see the photos on my phone and iTunes shows they occupy space, but I can't transfer the photos in any other folder on the phone as well as on the mac....

Does anyone know how I can recover the photos?? It's getting really annoying as I am trying for 3 days already...

Were the photos transferred to the phone from the Mac by using iTunes photo sync? If so, you will need a 3rd party app to recover them and there may be some loss of quality from the originals that were on your Mac.
