My Applications folder Disappears periodicaly and I need to restore.

I have a newer 15 inch Mac Book pro running Mavericks ( 10.9.5 ) and My Applications folder will randomly disappear. This has happened four times since I bought it on October. I run Norton, my system is clean from viruses. I run current backups so I don't loose anything but this is a real pain. Has anyone heard or seen this issue, or know of any bugs? Help and thanks in advance.
