I keep losing contacts, even after restoring from backup

I've been using iPhone since 3GS.

I currently have 5S. In the past, all my contacts I kept in my Google Contacts. I would export and then import.

But now when I do this, I still keep losing some of my critical contacts -

I've tried a google/iphone sync program (two or three different ones. But I can't figure out what is going on. I also now have a ton of "Groups" that I have to make sure all are check to have what contacts are even left.

Can anyone help?
