Opening photos with iphoto. Where are they?

I used "open with iphoto" when selecting 11 photos from external hard drive, but when I open iphoto, only the last one selected is available. How do I retrieve the others?

I spent about 2 hours selecting those carefully, I would rather not go through this again!
