Macbook Pro 13" Early 2011 Upgrade Options

Hello all,

I have a Early 2011, 13-inch MacBook Pro. This model has the 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 and 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory (Both factory installed).

I recent began running a dual screen setup with it and it struggles with this task. I don't use the MBP for anything more than email, internet surfing, and Netflix.

I want to upgrade the RAM and the Hard Drive to a SSD, but I do not know what to buy. What do you recommend as far as specific RAM sticks and HDDs to upgrade with? As far as capacity, I really would not need more than 250GB of HDD storage.

The memory can be upgraded to as much as 16 GB, be sure to buy the memory from a reliable quality source such as OWC, http://www.macsales.com or Crucial, http://www.crucial.com as both have excellent service and lifetime warranties. OWC also offers both hard drives and SSD for that model MacBook Pro so take a look at what they have. All products OWC and Crucial sell are tested and guaranteed to work in a Mac.

To add to Ralph Landry's good advice, generally OWC, Samsung and Crucial SSD's are favored here. I have installed Crucial SSD's in three of my MBPs and they are operating satisfactorily. (two required firmware updates). I have not had them long enough to give a unequivocal endorsement.
