print queue macbook

I cannot add my new Canon Pixma printer to my Mac Book. I am trying to do it via wifi - I can see the printer on the network. Everytime I try to add it it says that it is creating a print queue and then it gets stuck. I have to reboot to get rid of it. My husband can print fine from his PC. Help!
