How to change location information for a photo?

Hi.

I have been searching for a feature in Photos for Mac, which was really appreciated by me in iPhoto, namely the option to choose a location for a photos. I have a camera (beside my iPhone) which do not have a GPS and therefore do not assign location data for photos imported to Photos app. Is there any possibility to actually change that information? I am quite convinced that this is not possible (I have made couple of searches on the web - no result). Can anyone confirm this? Thanks a lot.

Sincerely,

Antek

The ability to add location data or copy location data did not make it into Photos. That feature, as well as many other critical features (sorting by descending/ascending name, date, keyword, title; no integrated info panel; no external editor; no access to original files; Events not Moments were Import source focused, not time focused; Flickr and Facebook exports created albums that were synced with those services and tagged photos as such; mass editing of Faces; etc).

I like all my Photo items in the cloud accessible by all devices – so far that is the only reason I use Photos. In every other way Photos is inferior to iPhoto and Aperture. The Moments, Collections and Years grouping is almost infantile.

I now import all my pictures from my DSLR and iOS devices into Aperture, make modifications (such as add location to my DSLR pics) then export as full size JPG and import into Photos. I used to do the same with iPhoto with the exception of IOS. Since Photos gets goofy with Moments I don't import iOS pics to it.

Any location information must be added before the file is imported into Photos by 3rd party applications.

As a workaround, assuming you have iPhotos 9.6.1 installed, you can use it to add the missing location info, export the photos to some location like a desktop folder, & then import that folder's contents to Photos. However, for iPhoto to include location info in the export, its export settings must be set for that:

User uploaded file

The downside to this (apart from the general hassle factor) is those include options do not apply unless you choose JPEG as the kind, which compels you to guess about what JPEG quality setting to use to both preserve all the detail & the photo & not make its file size larger than necessary.

Whether or not you find this useful, please take OT's suggestion to send Apple feedback about this missing feature.

It is not possible, I was searching for a good while too 😠. Still, I am liking Photos, it takes a bit of getting used to but it is missing a good number of features.

Personally I use Google's Picasa for Mac to work out the location of where my photographs were taken. It has lots a features that I wish Photos would have e.g. batch filename change to name one but I have every confidence that Apple will bring these features to Photos.
