Upgrade Yosemite without upgrading iPhoto?

Anyone worked out how to keep Yosemite up to date without losing iPhoto and changing to Photos? Or are we forced to accept Photos if we want to keep the basic system up to date?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 12GB

No problem - just be sure iphoto is up to date (version 9.6.1) and upgrade to OS X 10.10.3 - remove Photos for the dock and add IPhoto and keep on keeping on - Photos is an addition and you can not keep it from being there but you do not have to use it - and nothing happens to iphoto during the upgrade (except the OS X 10.10.3 requires version 9.6.1 of iPhoto)
