FaceTime Could Not Sign In

Ongoing problem with FaceTime unable to sign in: "Please check your network connection and try again". iPad 3rd generation WiFi & Cellular, IOS 8.3. FT worked until a few weeks ago. Since trouble started, I updated my Apple ID to new e-mail and updated to IOS 8.3. No problems signing in with new ID to Apple support, iTunes, etc, but not FaceTime. Have tried all of the fixits in Apple discussions, no luck. I don't want to pay for phone support, or to have to go to a Genius Bar. Really irritating! Help!

Hello there, MaryziPad.

Sounds like you've done some great initial troubleshooting to resolve your issue with not being able to sign in to FaceTime on your iPad. The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great steps to look over for troubleshooting your issue:

If you find your issue persists, there's some additional recommendations here:

If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime - Apple Support

Check your device settings

  1. Make sure that you’re connected to a cellular data or Wi-Fi network. If you're using an iPhone, you'll need SMS messaging to activate your phone number with iMessage and FaceTime. Depending on your carrier, you might be charged for this SMS.
  2. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and make sure that your time zone is set up correctly.

Turn off iMessage and FaceTime and restart

  1. Go to Settings > Messages and turn off iMessage.
  2. Go to Settings > FaceTime and turn off FaceTime.
  3. Restart your device.
  4. Turn iMessage and FaceTime back on.

Still not activated after an hour?

It might take a few minutes to activate iMessage and FaceTime. If you've waited more than an hour, try these steps:

  1. Make sure that your device has the latest version of iOS.
  2. If you're using an iPhone, contact your carrier to make sure that you can receive SMS messages.
  3. Contact Apple Support.

It's a known issue with new AppleIDs and both FaceTime and iMessage.

it's not your network.

call AppleCare. They will not charge you. You will be sent to a senior engineer who will mention engineers and give you a case number.

You can try going into airplane mode and then back out. Put time on automatic. Try signing into FaceTime as soon as you do that.

pedro - thanks for the info - but it does not help. For example, under Settings for iMessage and FactTime there is no way to turn either of them off. Any thoughts on that?

I would be delighted to uninstall and reinstall the app or reset it to brand-new, but it appears to be part of the IOS experience and not subject to manipulation by mere mortal users.

Thanks.
