connect 24 inch Cinema Display to mac mini 2013

I am considering buying a 24 Inch Cinema display with a Mini port to use with my 2013 mac Mini. This has one Thunderbolt port and an HDMI port; the thunderbolt port is used by an external SSD drive as a startup drive and so I cannot connect the display to this port. Is it possible to connect via the HDMI port using some sort of adapter, and if so, which? I understand that Mini port to HDM cables are usually one way only and will not take a feed from the mini. Can I use an HDMI to DVI adapter with a mini port to DVI cable/adapter? Can I double up the thunderbolt port somehow to allow both the drive and the display to connect?
