Is SONY a7S XAVC 4:2:2 compatible with FCP 7?

Greetings:

My cameraman is thinking of using the SONY A7S to shoot our next documentary.

As I understand it, the codec is XAVC HD 1080 Intra at 59.94i, 10 bits 4:2:2.

Does anyone have experience using this format with FCP 7?

What software do you use to transcode XAVC to ProRes?

Thanks so much for your help!

Use EditReady:

Convert the files to ProRes 422 and the 10 bit will be maintained in an FCP-7 edit friendly format.

With the A7s and XAVC?

I haven't had any problems. The XAVC at 50Mbits is quite good. When I bought my A7s, I bought at Atoms Ninja Star to simultaneously record ProRes, but after I saw the XAVC files, I don't use the Star unless I want a realtime backup made.

The XAVC files, converted to ProRes, color correct beautifully.

There is no 1080 60i setting in XAVC on the camera. If you want to shoot interlaced, you need to shoot in the AVCHD codec.

The XAVC codec choices are 1080 60P, 1080 30P, 1080 24P and 720 120P, all at 50Mbits

I thought with an HDMI output to a recorder, there were additional options

With a recorder like the Atomos Shogun you can record 4K to 30fps via the HDMI output off the A7s.

There are limitations if you are using the camera internal SD card recording.

So far, I haven't done anything with the 4K functionality of the camera.
