What is the best combination of software to combine pictures, verbal commentary and recorded music to tell a family story.

I would like to organize sets of family pictures, have my mother tell a story as the pictures are viewed , and add a pop song from the same year in the background. I am thinking that I might record the voice on an iPad, and combine all the elements on my Mac. Thanks.
