My start up disk is full and I need to remove files but when I go to all files - all my photos are there and I don't want to remove them. What files can I remove safely

Do NOT use the All My Files view to delete items.

Start by deleting Downloads.

Delete the Trash

Open iPhoto and empty iPhoto's trash.http://www.macworld.com/article/1150849/empty_iphoto_trash.html

How much free space is left? Open Disk Utility in Applications/Utilities to get available space.

Do you have an external drive? You need to be able to copy files you want to keep like your Photos and Music. It's best to move large items. Usually your iTunes and iPhoto libraries are two large files that can be moved to an external drive. You can set the apps to use them in their new location.

Moving small individual files will not get you back the space you need.

If you have the space, download OmniDiskSweeper. This link requires requires OS X 8 or higher. If you are running an older version OS X, you will have to search for the old link. This free app is great for finding your large files so you can delete or move.

I would not recommend this app. Some of the file you remove like languages can cause some apps not to work. Any so called 'cleaners' often have unintended consequences. Just search this forum for removing Clean My Mac

Vishal2014, you sound more like you work for this product than an actual user.

Most users don't know what is needed for individual apps.
