how to disable OSX from adding www to an address

I have to visit a couple of websites that are simply http://domain.com
One of them is a wizard for one of our websites.

But OSX automatically adds the www, which causes a *URL not found*
I can get to it via Virtual PC, as Firefox won't add the www automatically on the PC side. Unfortunately, Safari, Firefox, and Camino will all follow OSX's rule of adding the www when I try to get there from my mac.

Suggestions on how to do an end-around this benefit?

Thanks in advance.

Before you enter the URL, press the space bar once. This will keep URL prompts from appearing. This is the only work-around. There have been requests to Apple to make the URL prompt an option in the Preferences selections. You can add your voice by sending feedback to Apple.
