You haven't provided enough information to answer your question.
What model of MacBook do you have? This posting area is for MacBook 12" Retinas, by the way.
What version of OS X do you have?
What version of OS X do you want to upgrade to?
More than likely, the statement you're getting is true.
IIt's a macbook Pro. I'm not really sure. I know my computer had the latest update. I would go in and see what I currently have but my computer is stuck on this screen. I shut it off/on and it repeats the whole cycle again. It asks for language, then tried to install, but cannot install
Your original post states a McBook, now you state that it is a MacBook Pro. And you have the latest update of what, i.e., Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, or Yosemite?
You're still not providing enough information.
There are 35 models of MacBook Pro and 11 models of MacBooks, be specific. Use the serial number on the bottom or in the battery compartment to identify your Mac: http://www.powerbookmedic.com/identify-mac-serial.php
On the back of your Mac is the serial number. Enter it here and post back the model and year information:
