How to change the preferred language back to English after having setup my iPad in Chinese Language?
The Chinese Names for the icons are difficult to guess.
Do I need to reset everything to factory standard and risk losing everything on my iPad in order to start again?
This option is very painful.

As an option you may reset all iPad settings.
This won't delete your data stored on device.
Just to clarify, a reset as described will not change any of your settings. This is like a reboot on a computer. It just restarts everything if you have a problem.
