Why do photos dragged from Photos have Text wrap turned on

As photos has lost the ability to put simple captions on the bottom of Photos, I had to help my wife use pages to make a 6x4 photo page with a photo and a caption. Every time we drag a new photo onto the page, it turns on text wrap and forces the text line off the page, so she has to remember to go to Arrange and select none, which is so frustrating for her. It is fine for me as an IT specialist to understand what is going on but there is no preference to stop this behaviour as far as I can see. Gone is the simplicity I am used to seeing from Apple.

Set up a sample Shape followed by a return and text formatted as a Caption, both as placeholders with the correct Before and After Paragraph spacing.

Your wife can option drag copies of these to use where she wants in the text and drag the images onto the shape and click on the caption to replace it with whatever text she wants.

This doesn't apply to you, but just an observation with Word 15.9 in Office 2016 for Mac Preview.

The Photo browser comes up as Photos. I can drag/drop an arbitrary image into Word, right-click on the image, and on the contextual menu, there it is — Insert Caption… . The accompanying image shows the caption exactly where Word placed it. This text is selectable, and I increased it from the default 9 pt to 12 pt. The caption panel has 3 pre-defined tags: Figure, Equation, and Table. One can add custom tags such as Photo as I have done.

Hi Peter

That was a great thanks (to pull me up from the sad place)- needed reminding even though it goes against the grain to use word processing rather than page layout as I have been doing since ( need I say) Appleworks Drawing :-). Not sure how to make a placeholder but I was able to drag one off a template, made up a template called photos with an image and a caption - had to use edit mask to pull the bottom up so the text would show. and now I have 6x4 template for my wife to use. Now I need her to getover loss of iphoto and the old pages ( as do I as IT manager have to get people in my school to begin to change now we have yosemite on all machines not just staff.
