Q: Ever since upgrading to Yosemite my laptop has been almost unusable, so different to how it was.  Now very very slow to start up, so slow in use I sometimes think it's unresponsive. Anyone else had problems? Any solutions?

Sorry if I get this wrong - I'm neither familiar with the Community nor very tech-savvy. Just very annoyed with Apple and would like the status quo returned!!

Laptop is  a late 2011 Macbook Pro 15"

it says its running OS X 10.10.1

2.2 Ghz Intel Core i7

4GB memory 1333MHz DDR3

Intel HD graphics 3000 384 MB

I'm not great with it, still struggling after being given it as a Christmas present several years ago.  I can't seem to get to grips with it, having been a PC user for so long. I keep meaning to do a course or something. HOWEVER, I did love it for its lightning fast start up, very speedy internet, and I have successfully run a Word for windows on it and emails.

A while ago it asked me to upgrade to Yosemite from whatever I had before (Mountain Lion???) and ever since  it is terribly terribly slow to start up, then I have to wait for ages to type in my password.  Eventually it gets there but then it's slow to load apps like Safari fast either.

I notice the version isn't listed on the drop downs for posting here...

Any ideas?

I do resent the idea of having to now pay for the genius bar - plus a long trip to get there, all because Apple have messed up my laptop!

Any advice much appreciated.

MacBook Pro, operating system listed as OS X 10.10.1
