Why is iTunes not letting me backup?

Hello,

I downloaded iTunes 12.1.2 for Windows on my PC. I would like to backup my device but when I go to File and then device, backup is not lite up. The only thing that is lite up is restore from backup.But I do not want to do that. How can I perform a backup.I am running iOS 8.3.
