Q: Upgraded Library from 10.1 to 10.2, Projects now missing

Hi! So here are my particulars: running OS X 10.10.3; running Final Cut Pro 10.2.

I upgraded from 10.1 not too long ago. I had been working on a project in an older version of FCP, upgraded to 10.1 and converted my clips and Projects into a Library. I continued working on the Project, then upgraded to 10.2. Today I opened the Library, it updated, and… the Project I was working on is gone. All the clips are still there in their correct Events, but all the Projects (three Projects in three different Events) are gone. To make sure I wasn’t just overlooking them, I created a brand-new Project in one of the events, and lo and behold it showed up in its Event just like any other Project.

In Finder I right-clicked on the Library to “show package contents.” I’m seeing CurrentVersion.fcpevent, Original Media, “Brand-New Project I Created Two Minutes Ago,” and Render Files. No sign of the old projects.

I’ve converted other older libraries to 10.2 without problems (and with different problems), but this is a new one. How did the Projects get lost in the update? Is there any way to get them back? Thanks!

    Update and a new wrinkle!

I was able to find the actual Project files that were missing. Here's the thing: they weren't in the Library when the Library was updated to 10.2. So now I've got orphaned Projects with no Events. According to this support article (Update and work with Final Cut Pro X libraries FAQ - Apple Support), you can't update individual Projects, it has to be Project + Event = Library. So, I thought I'd recreate the conditions to have Final Cut update these files as if they were pre-Library-style Projects and Events. I created "Final Cut - Projects" and put the projects in there, and I created "Final Cut - Events" and copied the CurrentVersion.fcpevent, Original Media, and Render files from the updated Library/Event and put them in there. I opened FCP, selected File > Update Projects and Events, and located those folders.

And of course, that didn't work. FCP told me there were "Final Cut Pro could not find any projects or events to update."

I don't know what to do. The updated Library with its updated Event is in FCP just fine, but is there ANY way to get these Projects in there too?

The folders must be called Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects. Nothing else. They must be in two specific locations only. On the system drive they must at the top level of Movies. On an external drive, these two folders have to be at the root level of the drive.

Hah! Thank you so much! I can't believe I was trying so hard to fix this when it turned out I'd made a silly name format mistake! I was able to successfully update the Project and Event into a new Library. I had to relink the original files, but after that it's all working again. Thanks again!
