Q: No Internet Connection
Okay, this is a tricky problem.
My Mac has been having increasing difficulty connecting to my WiFi network. My other devices have all been fine (I have 2 Apple TV, 2 iPhones, and one iPad--all of which connect to my WiFi just fine). My computer is set up in t he room next to the WiFi router (literally on the other side of the wall, about 2 feet away).
Just yesterday, the computer just refuses to connect to the network (even though all other devices still do). I get a "No Internet Connection" message in the little wifi icon (with an exclamation point in it). At the time this started, I had NOT altered any of the settings in my Network Preferences. I have since made several prudent attempts, to no avail, so I put the settings back to what they were. I purchased a new router last night (the old one was 10 years old and it needed replacing anyway). No changes. I still get a "no internet connection" message. The wifi diagnostic tool doesn't yield anything useful. I have reset the router, the modem, both, a dozen times. Nothing works.
I'm a little distressed because this isn't the router or the network's problem. My roommate's own devices (in addition to mine) connect to it perfectly. We're talking seven devices working fine, and my computer doesn't.
Here's what I see in my Network Preferences:
WiFi
Self-Assigned IP
Status: On
Wi-Fi has the self-assigned IP address ##.##.##.## and will not be able to connect to the internet.
If I go one deeper into Advanced... then TCI/IP:
Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
IPv4 Address: ##.##.##.##
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Configure IPv6: Automatically
I'm not sure there's any additional information I can provide, but any help or question would be welcome.
Thanks,
Jean C.
