have an HP scanner / printer. No trouble printing, but scanner says not connected. Have tried deleting and reinstalling, have downloaded drivers from apple, done a disc repair. Still not working. Help!
Have you tried using the Mac OS X buil-in scan utility, in Applications, Image Capture to see if that works with your scanner?
the image capture screen comes up, the scanner scans but then an error box comes up saying scanner not connected. It seems imac talks to the scanner, but scanner can't comunicate back.

Have just solved the problem! Turned off the firewall in the router! New it must be something obvious!
In the router or the computer? If you turned it off on the router, you could be open to outside attacks/attempts to take over your computer.
Its the firewall in the router. With it on the scanner will not send info to the imac. When I go into the router where you configure the firewall it is only set up for games consuls, I can't see a way to add the printer/scanner. I suppose the only thing to do is turn it back on and turn off when I have scanning to do , which luckily isn't often.
