Q: where are icloud photo sharing albums stored?

So if the icloud photo sharing pictures and albums are not stored in your icloud account where are the pictures stored? On your phone? When other people contribute to the shared album will it be stored on your storage on your phone? I just really don't get how storage works for icloud photo sharing, and photo stream for that matter.

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), running iphoto 9.5.1

    They are stored in the cloud. And basically when you access them they download on demand. Sometimes a "optimized" low quality version is downloaded to the device if you haven't actually clicked the thumbnail. In all reality though if you wipe your device and reload it you will be pulling the pictures and videos down from the cloud.
