imovie 10.0.8 crashes when trying to share movie to youtube

Anyone else having issues sharing movies to youtube since updating to iMovie 10.0.8? My movies are around 35-45 minutes long and when share is about half way finished I get the message "iMovie has quit unexpectedly". I have restored back to 10.0.7, and it still works fine.

I have also had the same problem for the past two weeks since i updated my imovie. I have been using the imovie to edit and upload videos onto youtube and had no problems, my videos would upload within the hour. Since updating my imovie wont allow me to upload and keeps crashing 😕
Please help I am a new youtuber and not uploading regularly is causing me problems.

Thanks

I am getting constant crashes with Sharing. I'm trying to get 15-30 min videos up to YouTube and have not been successful. I did test a shorter video (less than five minutes) and it did work. These are at 1080p so they are fairly good size.

I've resorted to saving them to my desktop and uploading manually. I've lost count of the number of crash reports that Apple must have got just from me.

I also have sent crash reports and done much troubleshooting without success. I have been on the phone with Apple tech support at least 4 times regarding this issue. I still get the crash even using the internet at the Apple store. I get the crash using my son's macbook pro that doesn't have anything at all installed on it (time machine, carbonite, canon utilities, etc.) that tech support says could be an issue. They sent my crash reports to the Apple engineers who sent back a reply that they haven't received many complaints, so it must be a problem on my end and not a problem with the update. I guess I'll just have to wait until enough people report issues. I also was able to share very short sample videos, but the videos that crash are 1080p and about 35 minutes in length. I also can save them to my hard drive and then upload them directly to youtube, but don't really want to have to take that extra step. Hopefully Apple engineers will realize the problem with the update soon and get it fixed. Until then I restored my 10.0.7 version from Time Machine, and it is still working fine.

I am having this issues as well since updating to 10.0.8. A workaround for me has been the following:

1 - Open YouTube

2 - Select Upload Video in YouTube

3 - Drag and Drop the movie from IMovie Theater to YouTube Screen

4 - Add whatever detail data and save changes if applicable

So far I have been able to use this process to upload videos to YouTube with no errors and there does not appear to be any degradation in video quality.

Hope this helps.

I have a YouTube channel which I rely on for my business. I have not had an issue with iMovie prior to updating to Yosemite, coincidently. In the past few weeks however, I've gone from not being able to upload to YouTube and only being able to upload to Vimeo successfully,, then to not being able to upload to YouTube, Vimeo or anywhere else now. The status gets almost to the end, then fails or the application unexpectedly quits. My videos are simple and short (usually under 10 minutes). I've been using iMovie version 10.0.8. I'm giving aschilling's suggestion a try now. We'll see.

I bet it will work, since I was able to save to hard drive and upload directly that way, but I have restored back to 10.0.7 and am using that one until they fix 10.0.8. However, apple told me that they weren't having many issues with it, so they don't see a reason to fix anything. Please everyone that is having issues call them, so they will fix it. Thanks!

That is the error message I was getting "couldn't be completed" I am convinced this is a problem with the update. I did weeks of troubleshooting and sent multiple crash reports to Apple engineers. They said not enough people were having the same issue, so they didn't think it was a problem with their update. Please report this to Apple, so they will fix it. Thanks!

I have found that when I upload not using my WiFi, I don't get an error message. I've done three in a row without errors, and the uploads are significantly faster.

I plug the ethernet cable into my modem/router and into my iMac.

I have a fast Wifi speed...about 10mbps upload speed, so my WiFi speed was not the issue, and my modem/router is only 8 feet away from my computer.

My theory so far is even a momentary loss of connection creates a "failed share." Having a hardwire connection keeps the connection intact all the time.

Try it and see if it helps.

By the way, I never had this issue before the latest iMovie upgrade (10.0.8)

I have been having the same problem...

My clip is only 10 minutes long - about 600 MB at 720p

Failed on WiFi but failed on Ethernet as well !

Resorted to loss of quality and finally managed to upload the ~ 120 MB at 480p!

If it really is failing due to 'momentary loss of connection' we have a serious quality issue...

Any commercial software that does deals with large amount of data being transferred over the network and does not not tolerate errors is unacceptable!

I had iMovie send an error report... hope someone bothers to look at it

Well friends, I thought I had this problem solved by uploading via ethernet.

Today I had a total computer crash when uploading a short video to YouTube.

I had to restart my computer twice to get iMovie working again.

I had a customer support screen share with an iMovie specialist last week. Of course, I had no crashes and the upload worked perfectly. Go figure.

Today, it took three attempts to finally get my five minute video uploaded without errors.
