Q: how do i drag a photo from photos into a word doc like i used to with iPhoto?

I used to be able to drag a picture from iPhoto into a Word doc.  Now that I've upgraded to Yosemite, I've lost that functionality. Help!

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

It seems that Photos won't do it - not even between Apple Apps -- Photos > iMovie = Add Photos images to an iMovie project - Apple Support

The last part of this is maybe your workaround:

    1. Drag your image from Photos to the Desktop
    2. Drag from the Desktop to iMovie (Word should work as well?)

10.10.3 added the new Photos app, but you should still have iPhoto in your Applications folder, so you can still use it. And, you can drag directly from iPhoto in 10.10.3 - I just tried it with Pages and it worked (I do not have Word). However, using the new Photos app, you do need to park it on your desktop temporarily and then drag it into the document from there. There is no need to use iMovie.

It's ridiculous to have to use work-arounds for this basic function but this is the easiest way I've found.

With a Word document open on my desktop I open Photos and find the picture I want to insert in Word.  I right click the photo and select Share.  The list pops up and I select Mail.  A new email pops up immediately with the photo attached.  I drag the photo from the email message to Word then delete the email message.  It's fast and I don't have the photo stored on my desktop to add to the clutter.

    Microsoft has to fix this.

What is your version of Word?  Earlier versions of Office are not fully compatible with Photos and MacOS X 10.10.3 or later.  if you update to Office 2016 (Word 15.15), you can directly copy and paste between Photos and Word or use the Photo Browser in Word to drag your photos from the Photos Library to your Word documents. But even Word 15.15 does not yet support drag and drop from Photos.
