Q: MacBook Air Does Not Recognize Sony Bravia as an External Display

Just got a new MacBook Air (Early 2015) and wanted to connect it to an older Sony Bravia using a thunderbolt to HDMI cable. The TV set has two HDMI ports and I've tried both. For whatever reason, it just doesn't recognize the TV set using this set up. I tried the same cable on another, albeit newer Samsung TV set and it worked fine. So, I don't think the cable is defective. While I didn't spend a lot on the cable, it would be nice for it to work. Any help will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance.
