Erasing the Untitled File

I rushed into my FCP experience in an untutorialed way, operating on intuition, specifically not setting up my Library

in the way I am probably supposed to. Now the Final Cut Pro Library file called "Untitled" is sitting there with 31 GB in it

that I don't need at all, since I already exported several movies and will not need those clips again. Can I simply dump that

file into the Trash and another (empty) Library icon will appear? I cannot locate any sub-files down-path from this file (with the 4 purple

squares with white stars inside.

If you are sure you don't need it, you can trash it in the Finder. Just close the library first, or better yet quit FCP X.

By the way, most of the stuff in that library is most likely "optimized media". Before you trash the library altogether, try this: File->Delete Generated Library Files and check all the boxes. I bet that your library will then be 1/10 the size, and maybe you'll want to keep it after all.

Sort of, but not from within FCP X,

right click the purple square with the 4 stars in FCPX.

Reveal In Finder

Close FCP X

Delete the file that 'Reveal In Finder' found

open FCP X again.

A new Untitled Library will be created, totally empty

If there is nothing at all in the library that you need to keep, then join gin and editing / deleting parts of a package is really just align way around it, and more liable to problems in the future if this app works the same as any other of th emac apps that are packages/bundles.

If there is nothing you need, just delete the whole library and a new clean one will just be created next time you open FCP X
