Q: Shared albums won't show up on new Photos on Mac

With the new upgrade to Photos, I can no longer see the shared albums that I have with my friends and family. The albums are still visible on my iPhone and iPad, but not on my Mac. Where are they? Is it requiring me to sign up for iCloud storage in order to get to my shared albums??

    Welcome to the Apple Community.

    1. Make sure you have shared albums enabled in your Photos preferences.
    2. Reveal the sidebar by holding using ⌥ ⌘ S from the keyboard or show sidebar from the view menu.
    3. If the Shared list is hidden hold your cursor over it until you see the word 'Show' appear and click on it.

The shared albums is enabled under preferences. However, when I go to the sidebar, there is no shared list. It doesn't even come up on the sidebar so that I can click "show" or "hide". The only things coming up on the sidebar are "Photos" and "Albums".

When I first open the Photos app and try to get into Shared, it says "Connecting to Library... Retrieving latest photo sharing activity", but it never gets past this screen. Eventually it just changes to the generic screen that has the button that says "Start Sharing", but none of my already shared albums ever load. What a hassle! iPhoto was much easier to navigate!

What about the photos on the Mac and on your other devices are they being synced between all libraries.

My shared photo albums are syncing between my iPhone and my iPad but not to my Mac. Also, when I try to create a new "shared" album on the photos app on my Mac, it will not create at all. Basically nothing with the photo-sharing on my Mac is working at all.

Try repairing the library by holding down ⌥ and ⌘ while launching the app.

I am facing the same issue too.

Slight difference is that I have a iPhone, a MBP and a iMac.

The library is syncing across all 3, but the shared library is only showing in the iPhone and MBP.

on the iMac, it simply does not appear.

Even when I created a new library and set it as the system library, the shared tab still does not show on the side bar.

When I go into the Shared window/tab by going to View>Shared, it will show "Connecting to Library... Retrieving latest photo sharing activity", and then finally goes to the same generic screen.

Its irritating the **** out of me.

Go into Photos' iCloud preference pane and uncheck these two boxes.

Close Photos, reboot, go back to Photos' iCloud preference pane and recheck those two boxes. See if that will jumpstart the Shared albums.

Already done that, still the same.

Just to highlight some things I have done to try to resolve, but to no avail.

    1. repaired the database by holding down ⌥ and ⌘ while launching the app

    2. create another library, set it to system folder, close Photos, open Photos

    3. uncheck "iCloud photo sharing", close Photos, wait for at least 1 minute, open Photos, check "iCloud photo sharing"

    4. sign out of iCloud from "Settings", reboot Mac, sign back into iCloud, check "iCloud photo sharing", Open Photos

Sounds like the Apple team need to get a fix for this because I am having the same issues.  My shared photos are showing on my iPhone, Apple TVs and MacBook Air.  However, they are not showing on my iMac.  I tried all the options above and I still get nothing.

Anyone have any luck in the last few days? Now my photo stream won't even load. Nothing has synced onto my Mac since May 9. This is ridiculous.

Hi mwbaker210 and others who are facing this issue:

Can I know if the Mac that you are facing problem with is running on Fusion drive?

I am running a self made Fusion drive and I am wondering if it could be the cause as all other devices which only has 1 HDD/SSD has no issues, and wonder if the problem could be due to the transfer of data between the SSD and HDD in Fusion Drive.

    Just a wild wild guess.

Having the same issue.  I'm running on SSD, not fusion.  I'm wondering if this happened when my drive became full enough for Photos to start compressing.  At the outset I had plenty of space and I noticed all the files were original,  now they are compressed and I can't see any of my shared photo streams.  I do still see new pictures taken on my iPhone.

I just tried rebuilding and now I see all my shared photo streams. Thanks!
