syncing without device connected?

hi, I've been having issues with syncing my ipod touch with itunes 11.4, but this is really bizarre. I just came back from going out, and iTunes says 'finishing sync' (but the ipod touch wasn't even connected!) I tried to eject it from itunes, and then it said 'syncing iPod' in a box on top of the itunes window. I don't know if I should try to force quit itunes or what, but it's just stuck without my ipod even connected. I'm taking my ipod touch in for a genius to determine why its been acting so strange lately, but I can't even do anything right now in iTunes...
