Q: Can i delete the iPhotos library now i have switched to the new Photos app on my iMac

Hi,

Ive made the switch to Photos and imported all my images across. On looking in the folder i see the old iPhotos library still exists. Is there any benefit in deleting this? Or is it still required? I now have to library files bout about 226gb

Im looking to free up space and my iMac has started to slow up

Yes you can but it will free up very little space - see Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support

I strongly suggest you do not delete it as it can be very difficult to go back if you do

How large a hard drive do you have? How much free disk?

Thanks for the link - makes sense.

In answer to your question my iMac has a 500GB hard drive. It was down to the last 13gb..... I've since bought a 2TB external to store docs, freeing up 130gb of space on the hard drive. Seems to help against my problems.

I'll keep the iPhoto library but export all images to my new 2TB drive so i have a second back-up
