Q: your mac contains 0 memory slots!

removed and reset memory, still not working.

seems removing and reseating the memory fixed the error message. However the machine is still so slow it is nearly unusable. have tried disk utility and repair. still slow. plenty of hd space. memory is ok. running disk permissions check now.. not very hopeful. we do not have genius bars here!

So I did command -R and re ran disk utility and then Install OS. Connected to internet, downloaded Yosemite, and after some hours the machine went to install. It is "stuck" halfway through. grey background, large apple and a progress line, stuck in the middle. I can hear an occasional spin of the drive so something seems to be happening, but no progress on the bar! it has been that way for almost 2 days!!! searching the web I have seen it is a problem others have had, but no clear "fix". so, from very slow to nearly stopped!
