Q: Why won't my email download to my mac?

My email won't download to my mail app. I've checked the mail doctor and is shows that it is connected. When I try to have the email synch, the computer makes a ping sound but nothing happens. Please advise me on how to fix this issue. Thanks!!

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Have you tried:
If you can’t send or receive email on your Mac - Apple Support

How many accounts have the problem?
Can you access the account(s) on another device?

Unless you have a Mac Pro (not MacBook Pro either) I would think you are also not using Snow Leopard and want to be in the Yosemite (or some version of Mac OS X System: Mail)
