ATV3 Always Crashes When Playing Photo Slideshow with Homesharing

I like to link my ATV to iTunes for photo sharing, which pulls from my PC photo files. The success was always spotty - with the randomized aspect usually being poor (only pulling a couple of hundred out of 12,000 pics), though sometimes the randomization works decently. Anyway, the past few weeks the Apple TV has crashed while running the slideshow through homesharing. It pretty much happens all the time. It could be 10 minutes from start, could be two hours, but it crashes and restarts. All my software is up to date. Suggestions?
