Is it really possible to completely disable voice over feature?

I have a new iPod shuffle and noticed that when I play it in my car, every so often as it progresses through the track list, the voice over comes on and says random things - about battery life, volume level, playlists, and phrases like "bn01", "bn02" (I have no idea what these are). Very odd. I unchecked the "Enable Voice Over" feature in iTunes, synced the iPod, and it still happens.

I read somewhere in another thread that this disabling action only disables the announcement of song titles and album names, and that the iPod will continue to announce other things such as what I described above. Is this true? If so, that's quite a bummer.
