Finding auto saved Word documents

Can anyone help?

I accidentally closed a Word document, that had previously been saved, without saving and lost 3 hours of hard work on an essay (for some reason I thought it was a different document). I was hoping to find an auto saved version but I can't find any auto saved documents. I had the settings in preferences set on save every 10 minutes. I can't find the user folder I've read about on line and have tried some of the ways that are suggested to find it. I'm using a macbook pro running Yosemite 10.10.3.

If anybody knows if it's likely to exist and if so where I can find it I'd be so happy!

I thought that might be the case. Although the name auto save held such high hopes! I have time machine but have failed to figure out how to get it working over the wi-fi. Unfortunately it wasn't plugged in when this happened. At least I won't waste anymore time looking for it. I shall have another go at getting that wi-fi connection for saving onto my external hard drive sorted after I've got this essay out of the way. Thank you for taking the time to post a reply.
